I just don't get Obama mania
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 06:57AM I'm a fairly objective guy who gives everyone the benefit of the doubt -- I don't make a judgement until I've thoroughly considered a matter. When Bill Clinton came on the scene and I heard all the buzz, I watched and listened to him to see what it was all about. What I discovered was a third rate con man who had somehow captured many peoples' imagination. I had arguments with my friends and my brother over this and remember telling one friend that Clinton appeared "sleazy" and totally ego-centric. I just never responded to Clinton favorably -- I never trusted him nor did I think he gave particularly good speeches -- they were windy and transparently self-serving filled with a corn-poney personal tone that always struck me as phony.
The sames goes for Obama, and before anyone automatically calls me a racist neo-con, I thought JFK was a brilliant speaker and a charismatic personality. I've always thought MLK to be one of the greatest speakers ever, and a man who led through greatness and authenticity. But the difference between an MLK and Obama is so overwhelming that Obama leaves me cold and bored. I just don't get the Obama attraction. I see a dangerous politician who is an intellectual light-weight with small ideas he expresses in cliches-- that's all -- no poetry -- no magic. Obama, to me, is not authentic
I read all the time about his smoothness and charisma and compassion -- to me, he's cautious and uninspiring -- a phony.
I just don't get it.
